Management Apprentice, Termrim Construction

It’s so worth it. Push yourself into uncomfortable situations, it’s not about the money, it’s about bettering yourself. Everything else falls into place.

Corran

Joinery Apprenticeship

I have learnt how to do floor joists, floorboards, door frames and fixing roof trusses down, all of which use new tools than what I have used at college. I have really enjoyed learning on the job and I find it really useful when it comes to college paperwork as I have a better understanding of carpentry from practical work on site.

Apprenticeships are a great way to get into the working world, especially if you prefer learning while working rather than studying full time. Take everything you can, listen to everything you can, and put in as much effort as possible.

Building Your Career with Enable Futures

Starting your career can feel uncertain, especially in fast moving industries.

  1. Uncertainty Between Projects: When a contract ends, your apprenticeship can feel uncertain.
  2. Limited Industry Exposure: Training with one employer can limit your experience across different teams and projects.
  3. Travel and Site Access: Getting to training or temporary sites can be difficult if they are not close to home.

How Enable Futures supports you: We provide a structured route into employment. We place apprentices with approved host employers across different projects, ensuring continuity of work and wider experience. We also manage placements and transitions, helping you stay on track to complete your apprenticeship with confidence.

Enable Futures FAQ's

Answers to common questions from our Apprentices

You can apply to be an apprentice from the age of 16, once you have left school. Apprenticeships offer vocational learning in a huge range of roles, from level 2 through to degree level. Gaining an apprenticeship ticks two boxes for future employers, you have a theory qualification plus on the job, direct industry experience.

Usually working around 30 hours per week, plus 7 hours attending college, apprenticeships offer you the chance to earn while you learn, alongside industry professionals, applying theory to your work experience as you progress. Apprentices do real jobs in real work environments.

During an apprenticeship, you’ll gain hands-on experience every day. You’ll receive training to develop your skills and then apply what you’ve learned in real working situations. You’ll take on challenges, contribute to meaningful projects, and make a difference within the organisation you work for.

Apprenticeships can cover a wide range of roles, from practical hands-on positions to office-based or technical careers. Whatever your chosen field, you’ll see how your work contributes to real outcomes and be able to say, “I played a part in that success.”

Yes, for level 2 and level 3 apprenticeships you don’t need previous experience, but you should research the role to understand what it involves and what will be expected of you. Apprenticeships are designed to help you learn while you earn.

Our vacancies clearly show what qualifications are needed for each apprenticeship level. Maths and English GCSEs are usually required, and the qualification level needed increases with each stage.

Level 2: Provides basic knowledge and skills for specific jobs and is equal to GCSEs.
Level 3: Offers more specialised knowledge and skills and is equal to A levels. These apprenticeships provide UCAS points for further progression.
Level 4: Focuses on higher-level professional skills and can be equal to a foundation degree, a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or a Higher National Diploma (HND).
Levels 6 to 7: Leads to a full bachelor’s or master’s degree.

Once you’ve been offered a role, you’ll be assigned an apprenticeship manager. They’ll stay in touch throughout your apprenticeship and are always available if you need support. You’ll have regular catch-ups and face-to-face reviews to ensure you’re progressing well both in work and at college. Your apprenticeship manager can also offer help outside of the workplace if needed.

Yes, we can help you prepare. You might be asked questions such as:

  • Do you have any experience that could help you in this role?
  • Why do you want to pursue this job or career?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years?
  • Have you held any positions of responsibility?
  • How would you describe yourself in three words?
  • What achievement are you most proud of?
  • Can you give an example of when you worked as part of a team?

Always dress smartly, regardless of the job you’re applying for; first impressions count.

Bring your right-to-work documents, GCSE certificates, and any relevant photos or examples of your work to demonstrate your skills and experience.

Every apprenticeship is different. Some lead directly to a full-time position or progression to a higher level; others may not. Whatever the outcome, the skills and experience you’ve gained will help you find employment elsewhere. Your apprenticeship manager will support you in taking your next step.
